Three Popular Craft Beers

Beer has been brewed for thousands of years. Here are some of the popular variations of beer:
1. American IPA
Originally, brewers used hops to preserve Indian Pale Ales (IPA) for long shipping times. American IPAs have higher hops content to increase flavor, particularly sharp bitter notes. This type of beer also has a relatively higher alcohol content, at around 7 percent.
2. Red Ale
Also called amber ale, this beer uses both hops and malt flavors. Red ale is more balanced in flavor than IPA and pairs well with barbecue. At 5 percent alcohol, it is a lower-alcohol beer.
3. Porter
One of the darkest beers, porter often is compared to roasted grain and coffee in flavor. American styles usually have less than 7 percent alcohol while Baltic styles have as high as 10 percent. Porter is one of the thicker beers.
